I’m delighted to welcome you to our teleseminar today. We’re going to be talking about a very interesting topic and a topic that’s near and dear to my heart because many, many years ago when I was first starting out in my speaking career I spoke at the Learning Annex in San Francisco. And I tell you after I got done paying for the toll and the parking at the hotel and all that, there wasn’t a whole lot that I made on that night. So I sort of abandoned speaking at The Learning Annex a long, long time ago.
But I’ve noticed that a lot of speakers speak at the Learning Annex and then I started noticing an interesting trend. The people who speak on the cover are doing real, real, real well. Then I noticed a lot of other people who are speaking at the Learning Annex were my clients and you know they’re fairly sophisticated, fairly advanced people and they were still teaching at the local Learning Annexes, whether it be New York or San Diego. Those are two towns that I happened to visit and I saw their names there.
Then I realized something. It’s more than just making money from these events. It’s about personal branding. Keeping your name out there. For some people it’s a way to get their feet wet in the speaking industry and for other people, who are already name-brand stars, they’d have a hundred or two hundred or even four hundred people in their rooms.
Tony Robbins does Learning Annex seminars now. Deepak Chopra does Learning Annex seminars. So there are lot of famous people who are doing seminars. And I might say, with a little tongue in cheek, I’ve seen a couple of my PR Leads clients as the cover boy and cover girl for the Learning Annex. We had Hale Dwoskin, who’s the founder of the Sedona Institute, on the cover a couple of months ago. Then Rhonda Britten was on the cover too. I talk to a lot of famous people, or people who are famous in their niches, but when I see them on the cover of the Learning Annex suddenly I say, wow, “He really is big!” So it really does have a PR effect as well.
Today we’re going to learn how to actually turn these Learning Annex appearances into money, both in terms of selling more books and also getting more consulting engagements and all the other possible ways you can turn this to your advantage.
